Stacey Van Der Meer
(she/her)
Psychologist
I work with adolescents (16+) and adults experiencing a range of challenges, including PTSD, complex PTSD, eating disorders, emotional dysregulation, and anxiety.
I am passionate about supporting neurodivergent individuals (especially autistic and ADHDers) as well as members of the LGBTQIA+ community. I believe that therapy should be affirming and adapted to suit all neurotypes and genders.
My Approach
My therapeutic style is curious, genuine, compassionate, and hopeful. I strive to create a collaborative space where you feel safe to share your story, build self-understanding, and work toward meaningful change. Together, we explore the roots of your challenges and how they shape your current experiences, identify your goals and the barriers to achieving these, and equip you with personalised tools and strategies to help you live a more fulfilling life.
I am currently pursuing certification in Schema Therapy and integrate interventions into my practice to help clients understand the roots of their challenges and how these shape their current thinking, coping, and relationships. Schema Therapy provides not only a framework for self-understanding but also practical, evidence-based strategies for creating lasting change.
For trauma recovery, I also use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT), a structured approach that focuses on how trauma has impacted individuals' views of themselves, others, and the world. This approach can lead to full recovery from PTSD symptoms within 6 to 10 sessions.
Beyond Schema Therapy and CPT, I incorporate elements of Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT), always adapting my approach to meet the unique needs of each individual.
My Background & Training
I hold a Bachelor of Psychology (Honours) from Swinburne University of Technology and a Master of Psychology (Clinical) from the University of Wollongong. I have worked in a variety of clinical settings, supporting adolescents and adults with complex mental health concerns.
I am a member of the Australian Clinical Psychology Association and the Illawarra Shoalhaven Gender Alliance (ISGA) Clinical Network. In addition to working towards certification in Schema Therapy, I am also pursuing credentialing as an ANZAED Eating Disorder Clinician.
